Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) working in conjunction with the State of Mississippi’s workforce training program, the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) is used to assist new and existing companies with the retraining of displaced workers. In the WIA program, employers may be reimbursed up to 50 percent of wages for new workers for up to six months. When participants complete the training and enter un-subsidized employment, the employer may realize additional savings through a tax credit available under the Targeted Job Tax Credit Program. The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides employment and training activities for job-seekers and assistance to businesses in hiring and training potential or existing employees.
The WIN JOB CENTERS provide services such as assessment,
counseling, job search, placement, resume writing Individual Training Account (ITA) funds are used to pay for workers to go to school to gain skills through Community Colleges or other training providers.
The Job Center also provides employers free job postings, a large pool of available and skilled workers, and OJT, or on-the-job training, to help reduce the cost of training new employees. In the event of a layoff, Rapid Response is provided by a team who will come on-site and provide information to workers about unemployment insurance, WIN Job Center information, training information, resume writing, budgeting, health insurance, etc. WIA assistance is provided through the Mississippi Development Authority.
