Though no rail transverses Leake County, the area is served by two nearby rail companies.

Canadian National Railway (33 miles from Carthage at Canton)

Canadian National Railway maintains two main lines running north to Memphis, Tennessee. These branches run just west of Leake County (33 miles) in Madison County. The lines converge in Jackson, where the railroad has a major terminal switching yard. The lines again diverge from Jackson to run south to New Orleans, Louisiana, and southeast to Mobile, Alabama, via Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

CN is the only railroad which crosses the continent east-west and north-south, serving ports on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts while linking customers to all three NAFTA nations.

Kansas City Southern Railway (17 miles from Walnut Grove at Forest)

Kansas City Southern is a transportation holding company that has railroad investments in the U.S., Mexico and Panama. Its primary holding is The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCS), which serves customers in the central and south central regions of the U.S. KCS' rail holdings and investments are primary components of a NAFTA Railway system that links the commercial and industrial centers of the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Metropolitan Jackson, Mississippi, is located at the center of KCS' strategic Meridian Speedway line from Meridian, Mississippi, to Shreveport, Louisiana. This particular line runs directly south of Leake County at Forest.
