Mississippi is a right-to-work state.  A good working relationship between labor and management has always existed in Leake County.  There is only one union in Leake County – the Retail, Wholesale Department Store Union.  The contract began in 1992 at Choctaw Maid Farms, Inc. which is now Tyson Foods.   At present, about 25% of the 2,000 employees pay union dues.

Mississippi has less than 6% unionization in the manufacturing sector and less than 8% unionization overall.
