Fire protection for Carthage is provided by 10 full-time firemen and over 30 volunteers. The fire insurance rating is 7. A total of 13 volunteer fire departments with about 200 volunteers cover Leake County’s fire protection needs.
Police protection is provided by 12 full-time officers of the Leake County Sheriff’s Department and 13 full-time officers of Carthage Police Department and 4 full-time officers of the Walnut Grove Police Department. Lena has one part-time police officer.
Leake County Communications Center is rated as one of the most proficient emergency operations centers in the state. The center provides 911 emergency services, emergency management services and coordinates seven rural fire departments and three municipal departments in addition to dispatch for the Leake County Sheriff's Office and Walnut Grove and Lena Police Departments.
