Leake County boasts several annual festivals celebrating the local culture and numerous artistic events which are staged throughout the year. 

 

Carthage's Octoberfest is an annual Arts and Crafts Festival held on the first weekend in October.  The two-day festival attracts around 200 exhibitors.  Many of these exhibitors continue on to the Canton Flea Market later in October and each spring in Canton which is just 22 miles away.

 

The Wildlife Extravaganza is held annually in November at the Carthage Coliseum.  The event includes youth and adult archery contest, Big Buck contest, entertainment, informative speakers, and dinner.

 

The Leake County Christmas Parade is held annually on the first Monday in December beginning at the Carthage Coliseum, going around the court square, and returning to the Coliseum featuring entries of all kinds. It is a fun and enjoyable time for the participants and parade goers.

 

Square Affair and Heart of Mississippi 5-K Run/Walk is held annually on the third Saturday in May.  The charity event features a 5-K Run, 5-K Walk, and a one-mile Fun Run, entertainment in the amphitheater, Kid's Zone, and arts and crafts.

 

 

Lena's Independence Celebration is held on the Fourth of July each year.  The day of family fun draws thousands of people to the small Southwestern Leake County town.  The fun-filled day includes food, games, entertainment, political speeches, and arts and crafts concluding with a gigantic fireworks display at dusk.

 

Harmony Homecoming is held annually in August.  It is a homecoming and reunion of the Harmony Community with games, food, and entertainment.

 

Walnut Grove Day is held in downtown on the Saturday before Labor Day. The day includes entertainment in the park, barbecue chicken dinner, political speeches, games, and arts and crafts.
